Sue's Place on the Web

Welcome to my website!
Hope you find some interesting things here, and have some fun!

Me and My Family

As you can guess from the title of my page, my name is Sue. I live in Virginia with my husband. Three of my four children are still in Virginia - my oldest daughter Suzee (26 and single, yes, single), her younger sister Sherrie (married with three young children herself), and my youngest son Jon. My first born, Joey, has run away from home to Chicago - not really, he's attending college there and likes the area, he's almost a grown-up (28), so I can't report him missing.
I took an early retirement from the phone company this year and have been working part-time at Einstein's Bagels - great people and a fun place to work for a change. I also have the time now to frame some of my watercolors to enter in local art shows. I hope to take some more classes soon as well. I've taken english, psychology and art, but I'm thinking of taking a drumming class this time. Here's my list of things I've done and would like to do :

Things I Have Accomplished

- have a yellow belt in Karate

- raised four independent and
  creative kids

- won awards for my watercolors
  and ceramic sculptures

- published two short stories in
  a collection of local writers

- learned to drive (it's the
  worse thing I ever learned)

- am an accomplished ice-skater

Things I Want To Do

- get a black belt in Karate

- write a 'best seller'

- visit the British Isles
  (especially Scotland)

- learn how to swim

I hope to have some better pictures of my family and I on here soon. I know I said that last time I updated the page, but I'm really trying to find some good embarrassing ones. In the mean time, here's basically what we all look like.

Unusual True Stories

Story #1

When I was a very tiny girl, my grandmother took ill. I was taking a nap one day and in a dream my grandmother came to me and said she had to go away, but she wanted to say goodbye. I asked my grandmother if I could come with her, but she said it wasn't my time. My uncle woke me from the dream to tell me my grandmother had passed away.

Story #2

When I was about eleven, I found a gun sitting on a wall while my aunt and I were headed to church. We both tried to fire it with no success. My aunt gave me the gun, since I was the one who found it. I took it to Sunday School and showed it to a girl who yelled out to the teacher, "She has a gun!". The teacher told me to "Please put it away". I guess the teacher thought the girl meant a toy gun.
When my aunt and I got back to my aunt's house, I called my father to tell him about my find and much to my disappointment, he called the police and they came by and got it.

Story #3

When I was about seventeen years old, my brother and I were in a deli. Two guys ordered sandwiches and when they were given them they took off up the stairs and out of the door of the deli. A policeman who was there took off after them. My brother and I ran to the door to watch and as the cop reached the top stair his gun fell free from its holster. I picked up the gun and ran after the cop, with my brother close on my heels. I wonder what onlookers must have thought seeing two guys, a cop, a girl with a gun, and a small boy running down the street after each other.

Story #3

When I was working as an operator, I got a call from a very distressed sounding gentleman who wanted to know where his milk was. He had milk delivered, but the deliveries hadn't been showing up. He said he would ask his relatives about it, but he can't seem to find them. They were always with him, but now they were gone. Being a soft-hearted person, I got his name and address. After work, my husband and I went to the address. The house was forsale, no one answered. A neighbor came out and we asked where the gentleman was who lived there. The neighbor told us he had passed away a few weeks ago, his family put the house up for sale, but they were currently vacationing in Europe.

Just Kooky

My friends like to tease me because I sometimes have unusual things happen to me, things like putting on two different shoes on three occassions. One time I went to work with two different gray shoes, at least they were the same color. Another time I realized I had two different shoes on while on the way to Bible School and had to turn around and go home and change. The other time I made it all the way to Sunday School without realizing I had two different shoes on and the kids in the class thought it was hilarious! They thought the teacher was kooky. Maybe, but really it's just because my closet is a bit dark.

Interests

I'm a writer and painter, and belong to a local writer's group called 'The Writer's Roundtable'. Here's a sample of a recent assignment we were given to write about an embarrassing moment :
The Christmas Pageant
