We have all come a long way since then. Like the rest of my site, this is primarily organized links to pages of everything imaginable concerning this area.

National Weather Service Office, Wakefield, VA The National Weather Service office in Wakefield, Virginia, is located on Route 460, one mile west of the town of Wakefield in Sussex County. We have County Warning responsibility for 66 jurisdictions which includes 15 independent cities and 51 counties in East Central Virginia, Northeastern North Carolina, and the lower Maryland Eastern Shore. This area includes the Richmond and Norfolk metro areas. The population within our County Warning Area is approximately 3.5 million.
