- I am using a short aluminum water pump (part number 16233) to gain additional clearance between the engine and radiator and to reduce weight (every little bit will help). - Ford has a short water pump for 302s. I would use part number M-8501-E351S which they describe as a STREET ROD SHORT V-BELT WATER PUMP. I purchased the required Ford water pump pulley kit (part number M-8509-R) from an auto parts warehouse.
