This Indenture made and entered into the twenty-fifth day of  April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine between Harry Chappel of the one part and Joel Forehand  of the other,of the County of Chowan and the  State of North Carolina of the other part witnesseth that the said Harry Chappel of the county and state aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars to me in hand paid before sealing and delivering these pursants the right ------ of is hereby acknoeledged and I Harry Chappel fully satisfied and contented and paid have granted barganed sold conveyed and confirmed and by these pursants to grant bargan sell convey and affirm  to him the said Joel Forehand his heirs and assigners my right title and  ------- in a certain peace or parcel of land lying in Bear Swamp and known by the name of (Fords?Lords) Ridge with all the priveledges and appertuences to the same belonging or in any wise appeartaining to him the said Joel Forehand his heirs and assignese  forever and the said Harry Chappel of the first part will and  ------- executors and administrators shall forever warrant and defend the title to said premises unto him the said Joel Forehand his heirs and assignes forever in witness whereof I do hereby set my hand and affix my seal this day and date above written signed sealed and delivered in presants of
